Finance Master as a specialization within the International Business studies

Financial management plays a crucial role in the economy for every company. In order to succeed in the market, it is essential to plan and manage the use of financial resources professionally. Every business decision is based on key figures and the realistic assessment of financial risks. If you have already discovered enthusiasm for numbers during your undergraduate studies, you can now qualify for higher management tasks in this exciting subject area with the specialized master’s program in Financial Management.

Managing finances in an international context

The profile of this degree program covers topics of international finance and has the goal to build on the economics knowledge acquired during your undergraduate studies. You will develop a sound understanding of global finance and international investment and focus on risk management and the manifold factors influencing transnational business. Among other things, you will deal with foreign exchange rates, parities and the effects of trade restrictions. You will learn how to handle stocks, bonds and financial instruments such as options and forward transactions. In addition, you will acquire the skills you need to evaluate mergers, acquisitions, and restructurings.

Acquiring and applying knowledge with practical orientation

The course contents are taught by lecturers with an international background. By contributing their personal experiences to the lectures and presenting case studies from international financial practice, practical orientation is guaranteed. In addition, you will work on a business project with real or realistic financial management tasks and experience in a business simulation game how your solution strategy affects a company. In an eight-week internship at a company in Germany or abroad you receive personal insight into your future career and gain valuable practical experience. You want more on the job experience? Then complete your master’s thesis on a project in direct cooperation with a company.

Excellent foreign language skills are a must for your international professional career. Thanks to English being the language of lecture, you can improve your language ability and gain confidence in dealing with technical terms in financial management. The EMS also offers you the opportunity to learn or deepen another foreign language. On request, you can complete your master’s thesis during a semester abroad at one of our numerous partner universities, where you can also deepen your foreign language and intercultural knowledge.

Prerequisites for your master’s program

You have successfully completes of an economics or business degree. Since the language of study is English, you should have advanced English language skills. Our study advisors are happy to provide you with detailed information about this specialization and our entrance requirements.
