Application Process

Master programs for international applicants

The study programs at the EMSs start in the winter semester (August / September). Due to the limited number of available study spots, we advise you to apply early. This is especially true if you need a visa to study in Germany. Due to this, we accept applications year round.

Below you will find detailed information on the application requirements and process.

  • 1st Step: Prerequisites

The admission requirement for the acceptance into a master’s program at the EMS is a first academic degree (Bachelor, Master) from a state-recognized university with a minimum grade of “good“. If this grade has not been achieved in the first degree course, a separate admission procedure must be completed.

Your first degree should have been completed in the area of business or economics and include a total of at least 180 ECTS credits (including 60 ECTS in economic courses).

You are welcome to send us your curriculum vitae and academic transcript of records and we will check in advance whether you meet the admission requirements. Simply send it to admissions@ems.de.

  • 2nd Step: Your application

Please submit the following documents to apply (for English Master’s programs in English; for the MA in General Management in German):

    • Letter of motivation: one DIN A4 page which answers the following question: “How do you view your professional future after your studies at EMS?”
    • Your curriculum vitae
    • Digital passport picture (JPEG)
    • Copy of your academic degree (Bachelor) as well as proof of academic studies to date (Academic Transcript of Records)
    • Proof English language proficiency (if English is not your native language) through the TOEFL-certificate (min. 92 points Internet-based), or IELTS (min. 6.5), both not older than two years. Alternatively, proof of residing in an English speaking country for at least 6 months (internships, work) may be approved on an individual basis.
    • Copy of your passport, if available your residence permit or visa
    • Optional: proof of your semester abroad and/or proof of job experience/internship

Please apply online using our application form.

Alternatively, please send your complete application documents to:

    European Management School (EMS)
    Admissions Office
    Rheinstrasse 4 L
    55116 Mainz
    Germany

  • 3rd Step: Review of your application

The EMS Admissions Office will review your application and available for any questions you may have. Within a few days, you will receive feedback on whether you meet the formal eligibility requirements.

    Advance payment

Should a visa be necessary for you to study in Germany, we require advance payment of one semester of study fees as well as the application fee and semester transportation ticket. If your visa is not awarded, you will be reimbursed the semester study fees minus the registration fee. More about our study fees.

  • 4th Step: Admission

Once you have fulfilled our admissions requirements for a Master’s program, you will receive a study place offer from EMS. To secure your place of study, you must confirm this offer within a specified period.

    Visa application (where necessary)

Please note that applying for a visa can take up to four months, in some cases longer. Once you have transferred the advance payment and sent us the EMS study contract, we will send you a letter of admission needed to complete your visa application.

If, contrary to expectations, you do not receive a visa after transferring the advance payment, we will refund the pre-payment minus the registration fee upon presentation of the visa rejection.

Please note, as an applicant requiring a visa, you must apply before the following deadlines:

    • English study programs: May 15th
    • German study programs: June 15th

    Travelling to Germany
