Application Process

Bachelor programs for international applicants

The study programs at the EMS start in the winter semester (August / September). Due to the limited number of available study spots, we advise you to apply early. This is especially true if you need a visa to study in Germany. Due to this, we accept applications year round – even before you graduate from high school.

Below you will find detailed information on the application requirements and process.

  • 1st Step: Prerequisites

The admission requirement for studying at the EMS is the completion of your secondary school certificate, full entrance qualification to a University of Applied Sciences or an equivalent foreign qualification. Comparable degrees include: Matura, A-Levels, General Certificate of Education or an IB Diploma.

If you have not yet completed or received your final school leaving certificate, you may submit the last available report card from your school.

If you would like to get an initial assessment of whether your degree is recognized, please use the following internet portal: www.anabin.kmk.org (this database is only available in German) or send your documents directly to us for review: admissions@ems.de

  • 2nd Step: Your application

Please submit the following documents to apply:

(We can only review applications and documents in English or German)

    • CV (Curriculum Vitéa)
    • Digital picture (JPEG)
    • Certified copy of your last school certificates with an overview of all completed courses and grades (original language and translation into English or German)
    • If you have previously studied at another university: a grade list of your completed courses (official transcript of records) or a certified copy of your diploma (Bachelor or diploma, original language and translation in English or German).
    • Copy of your passport, if available your residence permit or visa.
    • Proof English language proficiency (if English is not your native language), which you can also achieve during our assessment day. We also accept the following certificates: TOEFL certificate (at least 83 points internet-based) or IELTS (min. 6.5). These must not be older than two years. Alternatively, proof of residing in an English speaking country for at least 6 months (internships, work) or parts of your school career in English will be accepted (to be approved on an individual bases).

Please apply online using our application form.

Alternatively, please send your complete application documents to:

  • 3rd Step: Assessment Day

In order to commence your studies at our university, you must first have successfully completed our selection process. Assessment days are offered several times a month on the EMS campus in Mainz.

Applicants who cannot come to EMS for an assessment test are offered the opportunity to take part in a Skype interview. Detailed information about the assessments will be provided to you during the application process.

A successfully passed assessment test is valid for two years.

    Advance payment

Should a visa be necessary for you to study in Germany, we require advance payment of one semester of study fees as well as the application fee and semester transportation ticket. If your visa is not awarded, you will be reimbursed the semester study fees minus the registration fee. More about our study fees.

  • 4th Step: Admission

After successfully completing the our admissions assessment / Skype interview, you will receive a study place offer from EMS. To secure your place of study, you must confirm this offer within a specified period.

    Visa application (where necessary)

Please note that applying for a visa can take up to four months, in some cases longer. Once you have transferred the advance payment and sent us the EMS study contract, we will send you a letter of admission needed to complete your visa application.

If, contrary to expectations, you do not receive a visa after transferring the advance payment, we will refund the pre-payment minus the registration fee upon presentation of the visa rejection.

    Travelling to Germany

You did it! Once all formal steps have been completed, nothing stands in the way of your studies in Germany. Please plan your trip so that you arrive in Mainz in time for the beginning of the semester.
